About a few weeks ago I noticed that the .NET 4.8 framework update KB4511555 completely broke a few programs and games on my PC. Most notably this was Sims 4 and a program I use to adjust my mouse settings (Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard Center).
I immediately uninstalled the update and they both worked, however the update automatically reinstalled itself a week later and there was no option to revert it again. I decided to do a fresh reinstall of Windows, this time on a separate drive, wiping everything.
Again, worked fine until the update applied after fresh install, and then I saw a consecutive .NET framework 3.5 & 4.8 update apply this time (KB4514359).
How can this be happening? I don’t even know where to begin to troubleshoot. I’ve tried running sfc /scannow, running DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth, and the official .NET repair tool but that isn’t supported by Windows 10. Tried disabling/re-enabling .NET through appwiz.cpl + restarting but no luck.
I’m not installing any obscure third party software to cause this and I’ve updated the drivers on every component including the BIOS, chipset, etc.
I’m running an AMD 3600x and RTX 2080 on 1903. Could really use some help.
