My app now writes to a new console window rather that the window that invoked it

I have a simple app that checks the status of a database, and then reports with a line of text using Console.WriteLine(myString) This used to show the output in the current command window (like a “DIR” command), but now it creates a new console window and writes the output there. I want the original behavior. I recently migrated from Windows 7 to Windows 10, and also migrated from Visual Studio 15 to Visual Studio 17. I’m guessing that this problem has a simple solution, but I haven’t been able to come up with the right keywords to zero in on the answer.
