Best way to develop in a 3D environment using C#

I am interested in messing around creating things in a 3D environment using C#, but haven’t been able to find any good methods that don’t seem to be outdated. Preferably I would like to use Visual Studio Code if possible, though using normal Visual Studio or something else is fine. Trying to find a Visual Studio Code extension that would allow me to do something like this gave me no luck. I was thinking about learning C++ and messing around with OpenGL, but thought that I should see if anyone knows of anything using C# I could try first. Thanks for any suggestion!
