I have 26 high school students who want to move beyond Game Maker Studio into Unity. I got a grant for their Unity licenses, and I have agreed to learn how to use it so I can teach them.
I haven't programmed in years. As in BASIC. The kids have a mix of laptops – some PC and some MacBook Airs that they have checked out from the school. That is also what I have. I have spent the evening downloading Visual Studio Code, Mono, and anything else I can find to allow me to run the simple "Hello world" program. All I can seem to use VSC for is a glorified text editor, and I know Mono is there somewhere, but I don't know what to do with it. All the tutorials I have found jump straight into using Visual Studio. Some mention Mono, but no one states how to make it work.
I feel like an idiot. I offered to teach a Video Game Design class because I knew that it could be a gateway to programming. I just didn't expect to hit a wall so quickly!
Does anyone know of any tutorials that will walk me through learning C# on a Mac? I can learn the programming stuff anywhere, I just need to know how to make it run so I can also show my students. I am out of $$ so I have to do it the free way.
